This week's most popular stories
This week brought news that the major labels are
preparing a new digital album format. Tentatively titled CMX the proposed format would include songs, lyrics, videos, liner notes, artwork and other bonus content. The news comes on the heels of rumours that Apple is working on an alternative called Cocktail. CNN put the spotlight on
Muslim punk bands this week, focusing on Boston's
The Kominas along with the novel Taqwacore.
Strung Out are celebrating their
20th anniversary with a new album. The record is titled Agents of the Underground and is due out September 29th. The band swill support with a
tour in October.
Lucero detailed their new full length titled
1372 Overton Park. The new record is due on October 6th. Bridge Nine has announced plans to
reissue material from
Agnostic Front.
Andrew W.K. has announced plans to
tour with the Calder Quartet, a classical string quartet. The
Gaslight Anthem has announced
more dates on their tour with
Murder By Death. New labelmates
Paramore and the
Swellers will soon
hit the road with the Paper Route.
Brand New posted their new song
"At the Bottom," taken from their upcoming full length Daisy. The
Star Fucking Hipsters also posted a new song,
"3000 Miles Away" from their upcoming Alternative Tentacles full length. Punknews community regular TahoeJeff graced us with
ukulele versions of classic punk songs. On the video front we saw
Big D and The Kids Table's
"Fluent in Stroll" along with
Paramore's
"Ignorance."
This week we said goodbye legendary guitarist and inventor
