Wale has been a sought-after live performer lately, with high-profile spots at this year's VMAs, VH1's "Hip Hop Honors" and the BET Hip-Hop Awards. Now the MC with the unorthodox delivery is joining Jay-Z on his latest tour.
"I'm excited. We're just trying to bring our A game," Wale told us recently in New York. "A lot of people been praising the live show, so I don't want to disappoint. And it's a good rollout for my album — [which drops on November 10]. And to be able to connect with a lot of different markets that might not be familiar with my music, like, that is just incredible."
Wale, who's managed by Jay's Roc Nation, says Hov's rollout for Blueprint 3 has been impeccable.
"He's the best to do it on the rap level and business side," Wale said about Hov. "I saw it coming, I'm around that office a lot. But the fact he can pull it off so easily — he's the best to do it."
Wale was part of the VH1 celebration for the Jiggaman's former recording home, Def Jam Records. Wale covered Roc-A-Fella staple Kanye West at "Hip Hop Honors."
"It was cool," Wale said of performing West's "Touch the Sky." "I remember being a freshman in college, listening to Kanye. It was one of those moments, like the first time seeing myself on '[MTV] Jams,' like, 'Wow, I really used to watch this.' It was a great, great look for me. I had a little bit of fun with it; I got to play dress-up."
Wale's Attention Deficit drops on November 10. Other openers on the Jay-Z tour include N.E.R.D. and J. Cole.
