NEW YORK — It's no secret that Chris Brown is looking to reconnect with fans who might have strayed away from him in the aftermath of his February assault on Rihanna.

He's apologized for the attack on national television a number of times; the judge in his case has commended his progress; and he launched his Fan Appreciation Tour in support of his new album, Graffiti, which dropped on Tuesday. Despite Brown's best efforts, however, he's still facing some resistance.

Ever since he announced his tour, the trek has been dogged by rumors of slow ticket sales. But Brown denied the rumors, telling MTV News this week that his detractors are just attempting to impede his attempt to rehabilitate his life and career.

"I think people just try to throw out that negative stuff to keep the cycle going," he told MTV News. "And the cycle is corny. Everybody just needs to be positive. With the Fan Appreciation Tour, every one of my shows have been sold out. Being able to go onstage and see the whole crowd packed and the love from my fans has been incredible."

The "Forever" star has five dates left on the tour, which is scheduled to close at New York's Nokia Theatre on Tuesday. At press time, tickets for Wednesday night's (December 9) show at Sayreville, New Jersey's Starland Ballroom were still available on Ticketmaster, but the other four shows appeared to be sold out.

Originally the tour was slated to culminate with the release of Graffiti, but the album's release was pushed up by one week. Brown, for his part, seems to be taking the negative rumors and the regular stress of promoting an album in stride.

"I think it's only evil trying to bring us down," he said. "If we stay positive [then] nothing can get in the way of that."
