Shock rocker Marilyn Manson has settled a multimillion-dollar lawsuit levied against him by a former bandmate that claimed the frontman siphoned the collective's monies to purchase an array of exotic items for himself and allegedly fund his drug habit.
According to the The Associated Press, keyboardist Stephen Bier will walk away with $380,000. While the amount is substantial, it's nowhere near the payout Bier was originally seeking: Bier initially sought in excess of $20 million in a suit he filed in 2007.
Manson's insurance company and Bier's former business managers are on the hook for the $380,000 payout, Manson's attorney, Howard King, told the AP.
Bier, an original member of Manson's band Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, claimed in his lawsuit that the singer systematically removed each member of the group and replaced them with new musicians. The move, Bier alleged, was done to avoid splitting money the band would be owed, as a previous agreement ordered funds to be split amongst each member, although Manson's would be higher than the rest.
Bier said new members of the band weren't aware of the agreements in place, and at the time, Manson denied the charges.
The lawsuit listed a litany of over-the-top purchases Manson allegedly made with the stolen money, including Nazi artifacts, an engagement ring for his former fiancée and hush money to producers of a DVD to block disparaging racial remarks Manson may have uttered.
Manson, however, claimed the money came from sales of his autobiography.
The case was scheduled to go to court soon, after a number of delays, from scheduling to feuding between the parties over depositions and documents.
