A collection of artists has agreed to boycott fuel sold by BP on their tours this summer, after the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The Associated Press reports that Korn's Jonathan Davis is trying to get his fellow artists to boycott the use/purchase of BP fuel, as well as that of any of its affiliates. In a statement issued Friday (June 18), the rocker said he has already gathered Lady Gaga, Creed and the Backstreet Boys for his effort.
Justin Bieber, Cameron Diaz, Lenny Kravitz and Ryan Seacrest, meanwhile, are all set to appear Monday on CNN's two-hour telethon "Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help." Kravitz also participated in the New Orleans fundraising concert Gulf Aid last month, along with Mos Def, John Legend and others, which reportedly raised $350,000 for fishing families and wetlands restoration.
"Lost" and "Vampire Diaries" actor Ian Somerhalder, a Louisiana native, filmed a PSA for the Audubon Institute and told the Los Angeles Times, "I never talk about politics, but right now is a time to be angry and sad."
Actor Kevin Costner has perhaps put forth the biggest effort, having invested in 300 Ocean Therapy machines to help clean up the spill. New York's Daily News reported that the machines work like a big vacuum that sucks up tons of polluted water, separates the oil and finishes with 97 percent clean water.
Tens of millions of gallons of oil have gushed into the Gulf Coast since an April explosion of an oil rig off the coast of Louisiana.
