Travie McCoy is about to get his rock star on.
We caught up with the Gym Class Heroes frontman just as he finished rehearsing for Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, where he'll perform with house artist deadmau5, and he shared a bit with us about the feeling of performing his hit single "Billionaire" up onstage.
"It's like a U2 concert in here, man. I feel like Bono up there," he told MTV News on Saturday (September 11). "Me and deadmau5 got together, went in on 'Billionaire.' He definitely took it, and it just turned into [he makes beatbox sounds] these crazy noises I never heard before. It's like this is where it's at."
McCoy is one of three musicians, also including Robyn and Jason Derülo, performing with the house-music icon.
When we caught up with him Friday, prior to the rehearsal, McCoy told us he was stoked to see Eminem open the VMAs and was "really excited to also see what deadmau5 is doing. I know what I'm doing with him, but I'm excited to see what he's doing with everyone else."
Deadmau5 follows performers like Wale, Mark Ronson, Travis Barker and the late DJ AM, all of whom kept the pace of the awards show as VMA house artists.
Other 2010 VMA performers include Kanye West, Justin Bieber, B.o.B, Drake and Linkin Park.
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News' VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday.
