During the past 12 months, Ludacris has blessed his own records, remixes and guest appearances for others with his trademark lyrical acrobatics. He's contributed to club bangers ("How Low"), pop singles (Justin Bieber's "Baby") and 'hood anthems (DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win"). With each verse, though, Ludacris has remained consistent by delivering humor and wit in his bars no matter the type of track.
"I'm a Luda fan, all day long," fellow Atlanta resident Ne-Yo told MTV News about the #10 Hottest MC in the Game. "I love that Luda is a guy that's not afraid to laugh at himself. That he's not afraid to bring humor to hip-hop. On top of that, he's an incredible lyricist and an incredible rapper, period."
With his gut-busting rhymes, Ludacris fared extremely well on the charts this year. The rapper's latest effort, Battle of the Sexes, debuted atop the Billboard 200 after selling 137,000 copies; the project was his third #1 album.
The lead singles, "How Low" (#6) and "My Chick Bad" (#11), also scored big on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
Earlier this year, Ludacris spoke with MTV News at the NBA All-Star game and opened up about heating up the clubs again after a low-key response to his previous album, Theater of the Mind.
"It feels good," Luda said. "Athletes get motivated by songs sometimes. That's part of our motivation to make sure we get everybody else motivated. When we get in the studio, we want to make songs that are gonna play at such things as the All-Star game or the Super Bowl. That's my motivation."
