Hello everybody and welcome to Navel Gazing: your look back at the week in Punknews. I'm Adam White and I'll be your guide through some of the most popular, notable, and otherwise attention getting stories of the past seven days. Each and every Punknews story is built from tips contributed by you fine folks, and here's what got the strange, slow, old people in the community talking...
The People Must Have Something Good To Read On A Sunday
This week's most popular stories
This week talks between Warner Music and the mega popular video site YouTube
broke down over money. This puts the future of videos featuring
Green Day,
Against Me!, the
Dropkick Murphys and
My Chemical Romance in doubt. The
Thorns of Life have announced a Los Angeles show. The band notably features influential
Jawbreaker and
Jets To Brazil frontman Blake Schwarzenbach along with Aaron Elliott of the Cometbus zine,
Crimpshrine and
Pinhead Gunpowder and actress / musician Daniela Sea. Another East Bay legend seems to be reemerging, as former
Operation Ivy and
Common Rider frontman Jesse Michaels has
formed a new band as well.
We also had a look at a number of new releases this week.
Brand New discussed
their next. Hellcat Records discussed their
plans for 2009, featuring bands like
Rancid,
GBH, and the
Aggrolites.
Cursive unveiled details on
their new record and the
Blackout Pact discussed their
final EP and final show.
On the touring front the
Gaslight Anthem is lining up a
busy year, planning to tour the UK with
Polar Bear Club and
Frank Turner then returning to North America for a trek with Heartless Bastards. The
Mighty Mighty Bosstones have confimed the lineups for their
Hometown Throwdown shows. Look for bands like
Westbound Train,
Roll the Tanks,
Slapshot and
Big D and the Kids Table participating among others.
Comeback Kid, Carpathian and
Verse are headed to
Australia. The
Alkaline Trio,
Anberlin and Single File will play the
"Pick Up the Phone" tour of US college campuses in April to raise awareness of suicide prevention and mental health issues. Finally
Madball will hit the US west coast

Punknews.org is in
half-assed holiday mode this week, but as it's the end of the year we're cranking out the retrospective features. First as our annual gift to you we threw up a live video download of
A Wilhelm Scream performing
live at the Fest. We also launched the first slate of
year end lists, featuring our staff reviewers and alumni. Lists from our editors hit early next week and YOUR list, built from your album ratings over the past year is due for New Years.
As always we brought you new
Streaming Music including
New York, NY-based
Caleb Lionheart's new full length Think Hardcore, Play Pop Punk.
So what's coming up
this week? Look for
tours kicking off from
Reel Big Fish and
