Coheed and Cambria bassist Michael Todd was arrested on Sunday afternoon in Attleboro, Massachusetts, after police said he allegedly robbed a Walgreens pharmacy just hours before his band was supposed to open a show for reunited grunge icons Soundgarden.
"Upon arrival, it was learned that a male had threatened a pharmacist with a bomb threat and demanded Oxycontin," police told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. "The male was given six bottles of pain pills." Todd was arrested and charged with armed robbery and possession of a class B controlled substance. TMZ reported that he showed a pharmacist a cell phone note that claimed he had a bomb and demanded the powerful painkiller, often referred to as "hillbilly heroin."
Police said Todd, 30, was spotted by a passerby getting into a cab, which was headed to the nearby Comcast Center, where the band was slated to open for Soundgarden. He was arrested at the venue and a spokesperson for the Attleboro Police Department confirmed for MTV News on Monday morning (July 11) that the musician was being held on $10,000 bail and was on his way to Attleboro District Court for arraignment in the case.
Coheed addressed the incident on its website, confirming that Todd was arrested on "what we consider very serious charges and therefore he will not be finishing up the current tour." Touring keyboardist Wes Styles will take over bass playing duties for the remainder of the band's tour.
"No shows will be canceled," the statement continued. "We are surprised to say the least and will address the situation with Michael after the tour. For now, we just want to have a great time out here and finish with some killer shows in Boston, Poughkeepsie, Quebec City and Halifax."
Todd had to leave Coheed in 2006 due to a reported heroin addiction and spent time in a rehab facility before rejoining the prog rockers a year later.
