Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan answered the question Wednesday that fans across the country have been asking.
"Asheville was recommended as a very positive musical community," he said during an impromptu interview outside the Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville. "Good venue, right size, good timing."
Corgan said he has written five songs in Asheville, and the Smashing Pumpkins are planning a DVD of their tour that should include footage of local performances.
"People here have been amazing, really warm, supportive. It’s really been a fantastic experience," he said about his first trip to Asheville. "This is the kind of community that as a musician you want to play in."
