Perennial campus radio favourite Cat Power will issue Jukebox, her long-awaited second volume of cover tunes, on Jan. 22 through Matador.
Cat Power (real name Charlyn "Chan" Marshall) covers a wide range of repertoire on the album, and also offers up a new original. "Song To Bobby" was apparently written for Bob Dylan, whose "I Believe In You" is interpreted on the disc. A new version of Cat Power's "Metal Heart" is also included.
Cat Power's The Covers Record was released in 2000. Her most recent full-length, The Greatest, was released in 2006 to wide acclaim.
Here are the songs on Jukebox and the artists that first popularized them (at least somewhat):
* "Theme From New York, New York" (Frank Sinatra)
* "Metal Heart"
* "Ramblin' (Wo)man" (Hank Williams)
* "Song To Bobby"
* "Aretha, Sing One For Me" (George Jackson)
* "Lost Someone" (James Brown)
* "I Believe In You" (Bob Dylan)
* "Fortunate Son" (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
* "Silver Stallion" (Lee Clayton)
* "Dark End Of The Street" (James Carr)
* "Don't Explain" (Billie Holiday)
* "Woman Left Lonely" (Janis Joplin)
