Aubrey O'Day says she'll be sticking to her musical roots on her solo album — but when the world will hear that album is yet to be determined. She has yet to make a formal announcement about which music label she'll be working with.
"I'm still honoring my current commitment to my previous situation, so when that's honored I will definitely announce what label I'll be signed with, and the music that I'll be doing," she told MTV News on the red carpet of the film "Pedro." "I'm a pop star. I mean, that's what I do, that's what Danity Kane mostly did. We had our R&B roots as well, but I think that mixing pop with rock" will be her musical direction.
O'Day said she looks to artists like Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga and Pink for inspiration. "I love being in the club and having empowerment songs that are songs that you wanna get ready [to go out] to. The songs you wanna hear in the club, the songs you wanna hear when your ex-boyfriend hurts you, the songs you wanna sing to your girlfriends," she explained. "I definitely would make that music."
Speaking of ex-boyfriends and girlfriends, O'Day, who has said that she isn't gender-specific when looking for love, said, "Everybody deserves basic human rights. I mean, I'm a huge supporter of the gay community — possibly a member myself, you never know. And I definitely feel like, I don't care what you are in life, gay, straight, trans, whatever you are, whatever color you are, whatever you believe in, everybody deserves basic human rights."
