HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 11/15/07— The Make-A-Wish Foundation of America announced an eclectic group as their top eight celebrity wish granters to receive the Chris Greicius Celebrity Award.

The winners included rock group My Chemical Romance, magician Criss Angel, Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, the cast and crew of the NBC TV series “Law & Order: SVU”, ESPN, NASCAR foundation boss Sandy Marshall, celebrity stylist and VH1 fashion authority Mary Alice Stephenson and film producer Ian Bryce.

The Chris Greicius Celebrity Awards are awarded to those celebrities who granted the most wishes to Make-A-Wish kids.

“Each celebrity wish creates enduring, moving memories for wish kids at a time when they need inspiration while facing a life-threatening medical condition,” said David Williams, president and chief executive officer Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.

“Their time is a gift that can’t be replicated,” Williams continued. “Each of these winners was a true standout, even among the many generous celebrities who help create magical experiences for the kids who wish to meet them.”

Make-A-Wish chapters throughout the nation nominate celebrities they feel are deserving of the award.

From this pool of nominees, the foundation’s Celebrity and National Sports Program staff
choose the winners.

During this past year, 2007 a total of 794 celebrity or national sports wishes were granted—just 6 percent of the 13,000 granted overall.

The Celebrity and National Sports Program facilitates fatally-ill children in seeing that their wish to meet their favorite TV or movie star, musician, athlete or form of celebrity comes true.

The Chris Greicius Celebrity Awards were named after the 7-year-old boy who in 1980 wished to be a police officer, inspiring a group of volunteers to grant his wish and thousands more wishes of kids just like Chris.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was created in 1980 with the goal of bringing joy and strength into the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Since its inception it has granted more than 153,000 wishes—that’s one wish granted every 41 minutes.

The foundation has over 250,000 volunteers and 67 chapters throughout the United States, making is the largest wish-granting charity in the world.
