From the time reports first surfaced about an alleged assault involving Chris Brown to the moment the R&B singer struck a plea deal in a California court, MTV News has been bringing you details and developments about the case. Here is the timeline of how events unfolded:

Sunday, February 8: News breaks that the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a domestic-violence report involving Brown and an unidentified woman in L.A.'s Hancock Park neighborhood early Sunday morning.

Later that same day, Brown voluntarily turns himself in to police for questioning. Reports that the unidentified woman is Rihanna began to trickle out.

Monday, February 9: Brown is charged by the LAPD with making criminal threats. Bail is set at $50,000, and Brown is released from police custody.

Widespread reports identify Rihanna as the victim of the attack and that she suffered visible injuries as a result.

Tuesday, February 10: Rihanna is said to be fully cooperating with police in the investigation. Law-enforcement sources describe Rihanna's injuries as "horrific," and photos of the wounds reportedly show major contusions on both sides of the singer's face, with serious swelling and bruising, including a split lip and a bloody nose, as well as bite marks on one of her arms and several fingers.

Rihanna's grandmother tells a Barbados newspaper, "I don't want people to worry. Rihanna is fine and she is doing well."

Wednesday, February 11: TMZ reports that a text message sent to Brown from another woman about "hooking up later" may have ignited the explosive argument between Brown and Rihanna.

E! News reports that Rihanna told police Brown choked her and left her unconscious following their altercation, where she threw the keys of Brown's rented car out the window, sending him into "a rage." After the incident, police drove Rihanna to the hospital rather than waiting for an ambulance after noticing her eye was black and swollen. E! also reports Rihanna told police that Brown threatened to kill her.

Friday, February 13: Brown's father tells People, "He's reflecting on this situation. He's very remorseful. He's very concerned about the situation, and he wants to make sure that [Rihanna's] OK. This is unfortunate, this stumble, this situation. Hopefully, he will get past it. We all have our shortcomings. We all trip."

Sunday, February 15: Brown releases a statement about the incident. "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," the statement reads. "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones, and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

Thursday, February 19: TMZ posts a photograph it claims is of Rihanna shortly after the altercation with Brown. The woman in the photograph is shown with her eyes closed and visible contusions on her forehead, cheeks and mouth.

Friday, February 20: The LAPD launches an internal investigation and files a personnel complaint following the leak. "The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence," the LAPD asserted in a statement. "A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination."

On her 21st birthday, Rihanna makes her first public statement since the altercation. "At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown," reads the statement from her representatives. "She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time."

Thursday, March 5: Brown appears in court to be arraigned in the case. The district attorney's office charges Brown with felony assault and a felony count of making criminal threats. At the request of his attorney Mark Geragos, Brown is granted a continuance in the case and his arraignment is been pushed back until April 6. Brown does not enter a plea.

Court documents reveal details about the case against Brown, including a police statement that the incident began when Rihanna found a text message on Brown's cell phone from "a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with."

Monday, April 6: At an L.A. criminal courthouse, Brown pleads not guilty to two felony charges of assault and making criminal threats.

Wednesday, April 29: Geragos tells reporters outside of a Los Angeles courthouse that he wants the case against Brown dismissed entirely due to the leak of the police photo of Rihanna.

Wednesday, May 6: Geragos files a motion asking the LAPD to turn over all the written statements and reports in connection with the department's investigation into the leak of the photo of Rihanna.

Tuesday, June 9: Rihanna is subpoenaed to testify at a preliminary hearing in the assault case against Chris Brown.

Wednesday, June 10: California's Second District Court of Appeal denies Geragos' bid to delay the preliminary hearing in Brown's assault case.

Wednesday, June 17: The California Supreme Court also denies a request by Geragos to delay the preliminary hearing in the assault case.

Monday, June 22: On the day of Brown's scheduled preliminary hearing, a last-minute plea deal is announced between the singer and the state of California. Brown pleads guilty and is sentenced to 180 days of community labor, to be served in his native Virginia.
